IDsMAiD has developed a detailed position paper in December 2024 which outlines:

  • Our proposed model of care for Voluntary Assisted Dying in Ireland

  • Our response to the Joint Oireachtas Committee Report on Assisted Dying

  • Our proposals on how to balance safeguards with access in any upcoming legislation

Dr Brendan O’Shea delivered a talk ‘Whose Death is it anyway? How we Die matters’ at TEDxDunLaoghaire in December 2021.

Brendan advocated that patients should have ownership of their death and explores Medical Assistance in Dying as a choice for people at end of life.

He articulates how we die is an integral part of a good life.

Irish society has a responsibility to offer the choice of medically assisted dying to those suffering with a terminal incurable illness, a network of 100 doctors has said.

In its submission to the Oireachtas Justice Committee which is considering Dying with Dignity Bill, the Irish Doctors supporting Medical Assistance in Dying (IDsMAiD) group writes that medically assisted dying can be introduced in a “safe and fair manner”. It argues that in cases of terminal illness, “patients deserve to have their choice respected”.’

Claire Byrne RTÉ show on 14th December 2021

 

Dr Mark Murphy represented our group on the Claire Byrne RTÉ show on 14th December 2021, which discussed Assisted Dying.

The show was widely praised for bringing the experiences of patients and family members to national attention.

74% of respondents to the poll that evening voiced support for the introduction of Assisted Dying.
